HAND has no paid employees. All of the support activities are carried out by volunteers who generously donate their time, equipment, and other resources to reach out to mothers and fathers in pain.

Aside from the dedicated health care professionals who serve on HAND's Advisory Board, virtually all of the volunteers currently active with HAND are themselves parents who have experienced first-hand the grief which accompanies a childbearing loss.

It is only because of the courage and devotion of these parent/volunteers that HAND continues to help bereaved families during their time of need nearly fifteen years after the members of our first support group sat down together to share their pain and their love.

If you're interested in information on becoming a volunteer, there are many different levels at which you can contribute. A training program is held once a year for local volunteers interested in providing direct support over the phone or at support group meetings.

Writers are needed to contribute to the parent newsletter as well as help with the bulk mailing.

Phone Volunteers
This is usually done by people who have experienced a pregnancy or infant loss. We have a special need for Spanish speaking volunteers.

Support Group Facilitators and Co-Facilitators
Again, this is usually done by people who have experienced a pregnancy or infant loss. Co-facilitators, however, can be trained volunteers with a demonstrated sensitivity to bereavement issues.

Working with the Web Editor to write and develop new areas for the website.
